One Soldier's Story

When I was surfing the Net, I came across an interesting project called One Soldier's Story. It's an effort to collect first-person writings from current and former U.S. soldiers and present them in one collaborative hard-bound book.

I've always been intrigued by first-hand accounts of soldiers' personal experiences in the U.S. military. And I'm a fan of such movies as Blackhawk Down and Saving Private Ryan, among others. So this project appeals to me a great deal, since it is fact-based and includes the personal stories of our servicemen and women.

More Facts About The Project

It will contain writings from U.S. Army soldiers and veterans who have served on active duty from Sept. 11, 2001 to the present.

Any soldier of any rank who fits this timeframe is eligible to submit, including Army reservists and National Guardsmen. Family members are not eligible.

Submissions must be non-fiction accounts relating to the author's wartime experiences. Those experiences are not limited to combat, or deployment to any specific area.

There are no fees. This is not a contest. All authors who are selected will be paid (quite generously, in my opinion).

The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2005.
