Steven Soderbergh's 'Bubble' Movie Aims To Shake Things Up In The Movie Industry!
Steven Soderbergh's next movie, Bubble, debuts on January 27.
Sure, he's had big hits, like Erin Brockovich, Ocean's Eleven, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Sex, Lies and Videotape, and Traffic. (to name just a few), so what makes Soderbergh's release of the movie Bubble so interesting?
Bubble will be the first movie ever released in theaters AND on dvd AND on hi-definition TV at the same time!
It's an experiment that threatens to uproot the film industry's long-standing "release window" formula, which staggers a picture's release on various platforms to maximize profits. Source
About Steven Soderbergh's Bubble Movie
The Bubble movie is being touted as another (interesting) Steven Soderbergh experience...
...one that is sure to have heads turning!
In this interview with Steven Soderbergh, see why he's debuting his movie Bubble on DVD, cable, and in theaters all at once.
"It's "a genre-bending exercise that is a truly original cinematic experience. Set in and around a doll factory on the Ohio/West Virginia border, the film tells the story of Martha (Debbie Doebereiner) and Kyle (Dustin James Ashley), coworkers who have formed an unlikely friendship. But when the pretty Rose (Misty Dawn Wilkins) arrives, hidden layers of emotion begin to surface, culminating in an unspeakable tragedy. Like a gifted documentarian, Soderbergh uses his nonprofessional cast to present a slice of everyday American life that is unflinchingly, achingly honest." Source
"Bubble, starring non-actors in the smallest of stories, is likely to strike the multiplex-going audience as inelegant. But with Soderbergh's name on it, and with an almost-reality filming style much like (but far down the socioeconomic scale from) the director's HBO series "K Street", it might well have an impact on the arthouse audience and on American filmmaking in general." Elms -
Ahhhh, yes. I guess I wasn't putting two & two together to come up with the Mark Cuban connection. (...I knew I liked that guy!)
...apologies to penxv who is obviously WAY more up on things than I am!
Also Elms, thanks for clarifying the "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" director/producer credits. Good point.
I appreciate your thoughtful critique, Elms.
Thanks for the updates!

Two things
First, in your response to Penxv you wrote Thanks for sharing your love for Mark Cuban with us, but I'm not sure what he has to do with the Bubble movie...
Well Mark Cuban has a lot to do with 'Bubble'. It is his network HDNet that is broadcasting the movie. Part of Cuban's involvement in the project is why you are writing about it in the first place.
Second, you are writing about Steven Soderbergh as a director and then list a few of his better know movies, 'Sure, he's had big hits, like Erin Brockovich, Ocean's Eleven, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Sex, Lies and Videotape, and Traffic.'
But in doing so you imply that Mr. Soderbergh directed 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind'. While he was involved in the films production, as Executive Producer, George Clooney directed the film.
Hi penxv,
Thanks for sharing your love for Mark Cuban with us, but I'm not sure what he has to do with the Bubble movie...
By chance, did you mean to post your comment here? (That's our post about Mark Cuban.)
Mark Cuban is the man... and those other execs are useless pieces of unoriginal trash.
This was the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. I don't think piracy of this idiocy should be of any concern whatever. The characters should at least had a script. The whole thing seemed to be a pathetic effort in ad lib. "I don't know Martha", well DUH.
I am very exicted about the movie! My mom was one of the extras in the film and it is very exciting for something like this to happen around here. I can't wait to see the movie. I will buy it on dvd just to put up as a keepsake to say that my mom was in a movie. I think what you are doing is a good thing. I am glad that something like this has came to the mid-ohio valley.
