How Many G's Are You Pulling And How Much Can Your Body Take?

| Comments (0)

I saw an interesting report on CNN the other day. Dr. Sanjay Gupta was talking about G force.

G force has always been interesting to me -- ever since Jim told me that our favorite IHRA driver, Terry McMillen, reaches between 3 and 3-1/2 G's behind the wheel of his Top Fuel drag racing car each time.

But I've never really understood how G-forces worked and how many G's did what to your body.

So here's what I've recently learned...

reflection-through-race-car.jpgThis is for Jim.
(...who we all know works very hard at those IHRA drag racing events).

I'm also doing this because the radio station this hottie works for (101 WRIF in Detroit) has requested these photos. And hey, they're really good photos. Jim shot these at the IHRA race in Milan, Michigan in August.

So I'm sharing... for all to enjoy!

Maybe Drag Racing Isn't So Bad After All...

| Comments (2)

ihra-drag-racing-crowd-shot-mirrored-reflection.jpgJim has started his annual summer trek across the country racetrack to racetrack from Raleigh, North Carolina to Tulsa, Oklahoma and everywhere in between. Yep, he's home a week or so, then gone a week or so. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

If I enjoyed racing more, I'd probably go along with him. There's just so much down-time spent sitting around the track, and I'd usually rather be doing something... anything!

Anyhoo... when Jim got back from Dallas last week (he got side-tracked with a business meeting somewhere between here and Tulsa), I assumed my "wife of a race car fanatic" role by downloading and then uploading all of his best photos on the websites of the following dragracing drivers:

...and what do I find?

Does ESPY Nominated Woman Racer Melanie Troxel Have A Chance?

| Comments (0)

Every now and then I've got to jump on my soapbox and make a little noise. Maybe rattle a few cages or something.

As many of you know I do some PR and marketing work from some drag racers. Melanie Troxel is not one of them. For those that don't know who Melanie is, spot me 100 words or so here and you can have a chance to vote for her to win an ESPY.

Melanie is the pilot for the Skull Gear, TORCO Race Fuels, top fuel dragsters racing out of the Don Schumacher Racing camp. Mel has dominated NHRA Top Fuel Drag Racing this season. According to CompetitionPlus.com , she set an NHRA record for the most consecutive final-round appearances (five) to open a season in Top Fuel. She's also the quickest (4.458 seconds) and fastest (331.04 mph) female racer in NHRA history. Should she finish the season first in points, she would become just the second woman to win an NHRA Top Fuel world championship title. Legendary Shirley Muldowney earned three during her driving career.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Can you see the sunset reflected in my sunglasses?... It's a sign of things to come. CLICK to see a larger version!

We're so busy these days, that we often try to combine "vacation" time with scheduled business trips.

That's how it went last month when we followed a weekend at the racetrack (the work part) with a couple days at the beach (the fun part)...

Drag Racing Was... Well... Kind Of A Drag

As part of Jim's new "gig" as a stay-at-home dad (...to our two DOGS!) and owner of Squeaky Wheel Marketing, Jim helps crew for Terry McMillen at IHRA drag racing events. ...very slick, Mr. IHRA-Harley-lookin-racecar-drivin-PR-guy!

He managed to talk me into going with him this time... under the premise that we'd combine it with a fun stay on the beach afterwards.

Dukes of Hazzard... FUN Stuff!

Dukes of Hazzard movie poster. With all this hype surrounding the new movie "The Dukes of Hazzard" (opening August 5th), I thought of a few interesting twists... as they relate to us, and the town we live in.

CLICK to listen to the audio.First, listen to the actual horn from the General Lee car!

Who doesn't remember watching "The Dukes of Hazzard" as a kid? And, thanks to the movie, Jim and I have even been mildly interested in watching some of the reruns on CMT, as well.

But are there ways in which the movie/TV show has affected you, personally? There are a few that come to mind for us...

Jim Working For The "Dukes of Hazzard"?
We spotted this Dukes of Hazzard car at an IHRA race in Milan, Michigan. Did you know there was actually a nationwide contest to find "a vice-president of Dukes of Hazzard Institute"?

Bet you DIDN'T know that Jim actually considered entering that contest!

Big Boys Toys!

While I was at the Caribbean this weekend, Jim was in San Antonio having the time of his life back on the racetrack.

Terry McMillen's IHRA Funny Car... 'The Instigator'.

This was his first race as the PR & marketing guy for Terry McMillen's drag racing team.

The MSD ignition used in Terry's IHRA Funny Car. In a 'normal' car, this would be the equivalent to the distributer and rotor.

Jim even took it a step further this weekend, by becoming an official member of the Crew Team for Terry's "Instigator" Funny Car.

Jim Signs On With Hoosier Thunder Motorsports

(Lynnette is wearing Jim's shorts today... to tell you about a new addition to Jim's growing list of job responsibilities.)

Jim signs on with Terry McMillen's race team - Hoosier Thunder Motorsports. We are thrilled to announce that Jim recently joined the team of Hoosier Thunder Motorsports.

He will be working in their Marketing and Promotions Department, while being responsible for the team website, PR, and New Sponsor Development.

The aim is to secure some pretty powerful sponsors in order to take the team, led by Funny Car driver Terry McMillen, to the next level: Top Fuel drag racing!

How We Got Where We Are Today

| Comments (1)

Early on, we both knew that we wanted to pursue careers that were in some way related to Journalism. In fact, we both served on our respective high schools' Yearbook and Newspaper staffs. But when we tried our hand at it in college... it was our professors who advised us to seek alternative careers.

So, to all those told us "No" along the way, try this on for size...
Somehow, we each managed to have successful careers -- primarily within the fields of Journalism and Marketing.

Here's a little about how we've incorporated our skills in journalism, marketing, advertising, publishing, writing, editing, computers, and developing websites to get where we are today.

Check out these photos of Lynnette & Jim workin' hard for the money!
