| Comments (1)

cornhole-the-movie-logo.jpg Hoping to take Cornhole from the Midwest (Cincinnati to be exact, where it first became popular) all across the country, they've created a movie centered around the game of Cornhole.

Have you seen it yet?

Me neither. In fact, I don't think it's been released yet. But I'm looking forward to it!

Here's the inside scoop about Cornhole: The Movie...

My Kid Could Paint That: A Movie That Will Make You Think Twice

| Comments (0)

my-kid-could-paint-that-dvd-movie.jpg As you know, I am a huge fan of true stories, non-fiction books, reality TV shows, and documentaries.

One that I've recently added to my list of favorites is the movie called "My Kid Could Paint That".

The filming took place over the course of 3 years, with the bulk of the movie being filmed in 2005. It was released in theaters in October of 2007, and the movie recently came out on DVD in March of 2008.

(...before you read on, please know that there are some movie spoilers mentioned below.)

Why We Signed Up For Netflix Movies In The Mail... Again

| Comments (1)

I've had a Netflix membership 3 separate times in the past 10 years or so.

The first time was back when I was single. Then again, when Jim & I first got married. And now... we just signed up for the 3rd time.

You're probably wondering why we canceled our Netflix memberships before. For practical reasons really:

  • The first time... I started traveling more and I simply wasn't home as much to watch movies.
  • The second time... The selection of movies wasn't nearly as good as it is today, and we actually ran out of movies we wanted to see.

So why did we sign up again for a 3rd time???

An Excellent Book And A Great Movie That Future Marines -- And Their Loved Ones -- Will Enjoy

| Comments (0)

Parents, friends, family members, and U.S. soldiers (current and former) have been sharing some great resources that others with a son or daughter, husband or wife in the Marines will surely appreciate.

Two that stood out from all the rest and made me want to know more were:

Jean's take on the movie "Ears, Open. Eyeballs, Click."

And...

Linda's recommendation to read a book called "BOOT".

Here's what I've learned about both, the movie and the book...

tom-hanks-as-charlie-wilson.jpgCharlie Wilson's War (starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts & Philip Seymour Hoffman) is another fact-based movie that opens Christmas Day 2007. Jim & I will probably be among the first in line. (That's one of our "traditions".)

American Gangster Movie: Will The REAL Frank Lucas Please Stand Up?

| Comments (5)

american-gangster-movie.jpgFrank Lucas (also known as "Superfly" in the underground world) is the star of the show in the movie American Gangster which opened in theaters this week.

Jim and I were among the first to see it. We both really enjoyed this movie!

American Gangster is based on a true story (...which is what initially sold me). Like usual, after I see a "fact-based" movie, I run home to learn all I can about the real characters that the movie is based on. In this case... Frank Lucas.

Here's what I found out about Frank "Superfly" Lucas...

Who Has More Songs In Movies Than Van Morrison?

| Comments (2)

Maybe I just notice it more because I'm such a huge fan of Van Morrison, and own practically every CD he's ever made.

But seriously, I cannot believe how many times I've been watching a movie at the theater (or on DVD rental) and I'm always pleasantly surprised to hear that yet another Van Morrison song has made it into a popular movie.van-morrison.jpg

The cinematic qualities of Van Morrison's songs make it no surprise that he is one of the most popular choices for movie music. His compositions have graced the soundtrack of many box office hits over the years." Source

And I recently read that Van Morrison won an award "for his musical contributions to film."

Here's what I've learned about Van Morrison songs in movies...

Grindhouse Movie: Kurt Russell & Zoe Bell Steal The Spotlight

| Comments (0)

grindhouse-movie.jpg Surprise, surprise...

We had absolutely NO intention on ever seeing this movie (or should I say these movies?), but when the movie we went to see was sold out, there was nothing left to see but Grindhouse. And boy, are we glad we did.

If nothing else, but for the change of pace from the "traditional' movie experience...
