chip-challenge-horseshoes-of-golf.jpgWe're always looking for new backyard games to try out. For the first time this weekend, I played this new backyard game called Chip Challenge. It was fun!

They refer to it as 'the horseshoes of golf'... and I guess it is, to an extent. It's soooooo simple. Yet fairly challenging at the same time.

And the best part: It's never the same game twice!

The Book of Cool DVD set.

Prepare to be dazed and amazed...

This "Book of Cool" is an online slideshow through dozens of unique sports and activities. The photos depict only the best of the best... the true superstars and heroes in their fields.

This is what having FUN is all about...

Frisbees for sale to be used for Disc Golf. Q: How do you know when Disc Golf has become a viable sport?

A: When Frisbees cost $20... each!

This photo was taken in our local Play it Again Sports -- a store which re-sells used sports equipment.

The reality of the moment struck me when I realized that the above Frisbees ranged in price from $7.99 to $19.99... used!

I remember when Frisbees were just a buck. Not to mention the fact that everyone and their brother used to give them away at fairs, carnivals, and conventions.

A frisbee golf basket. All kidding aside, Frisbee Golf (a.k.a. Disc Golf... "the art of throwing a Frisbee toward an above-ground target") is serious business.

...or should I say a serious sport?

Here's everything you want to know about Frisbee golf, according to some of the best disc golfers in the world.

A frisbee golf basket. Trust me, there's a lot more fun to be had with a Frisbee than just tossing it back & forth at the park with a buddy!

Perhaps you've already heard about Frisbee Golf... but would you believe there are even MORE events & activities you enjoy with a Frisbee than that?!

Here's everything you need to know about all the ways have fun with a Frisbee, including how & where to participate in organized events for Frisbee throwers (amateurs and professionals alike).

Children playing the game from the Harry Potter movies, Quidditch. Photo (C) Better Homes & GardensYes, the Harry Potter craze has made its way into schools, playards and backyards across the country
... in more ways than one!

But did you know the unique children's game portrayed in the movie is now all the rage among kids?

Everyone wants to play Quidditch!

Here's how to play...

Easter Bunny Pig. This funny little scenario involving my two dogs, a bunny rabbit in the backyard, and some Easter eggs reminded me that there's lots of FUN to be enjoyed around Easter... if you think outside the box!

What follows are some fun outdoor Easter games you can play with kids (and adults), plus some online interactive Easter games for people of all ages who are spending Easter at the computer.

(Tomorrow's post: Fun ways to photograph Easter.)

But first, here's a cute little song & video featuring a rappin' bunny rabbit that might make you smile. (You can even send this to your friends as an online Easter greeting card.)

Bolo Toss game. Bolo Toss -- also known as Ladder Golf -- is an extremely addictive backyard game of skill... similar to horseshoes, but different.

It's a lawn game that is appropriate for all ages, and can actually be played indoors as well as outdoors.

Simply put, you toss a Bolo (piece of rope with a golf ball attached at both ends) toward a Ladder (usually made from PVC plastic pipes) with the hope that it will wrap around and cling to one of the individual rungs on the ladder. Which rung of the ladder your bolo clings to ultimately determine your score, or whether your toss simply "cancels out" your challenger's.

This backyard game appears to have gotten its start at the campgrounds across America. RVers and campers have a special fondness for this unique (and popular!) outdoor game, as do tailgaters.

Like most outdoor games, it's a game of many names. It's also commonly referred to as:

Norwegian Horseshoes, Ladder Golf, Snakes, Hillbilly Golf, Polish Golf, Horseballs, Tower Ball, Bolo Golf, Gladiator, Bola, Snake Toss, BlongoBall, Ladder Toss, Bolo, Rodeo Golf, Dingle Balls, Bolo Polo, Cowboy Golf, Redneck Golf, Pocca Bolo, The Snake Game, Willy Ball, Ladder Ball, Slither, Zing-Ball, Snakes & Ladders, Hillbilly Horseshoes, Flingy Ball, Top Toss, Norwegian Golf, Monkey Bars Golf, Swedish Golf, Polish Horsehoes, Dandy Golf, Montana Golf, Lasso Golf, Australian Horseshoes, Ladder Game, Monkey Balls, Rattlerail Toss, Golfball Horseshoes, Arizona Golf Balls, Spin-It, Ball Dangle, Bolo Ball, Poor Mans Golf, Bolo Toss, even Testical Toss!

Abby attempting to play Cornhole while being distracted by Wes. Who knew when I wrote about playing with my friend's Cornhole (game!) a month ago, that article would quickly become one of our most popular?

So, I decided to find out everything I could about this FUN game...

And, after playing it myself for the first time just weeks ago, I have to admit... while I had terrible aim, no power, and barely scored any points, it was a heck of a way to pass the time!

Following are some step-by-step instructions, photographs, and diagrams for building your own Cornhole game set...

Cornhole Fun For Everyone!

| Comments (25)

We had a little backyard fun with friends a couple weeks ago at Neil & Abby's house. It was mostly all our softball friends...

Backyard fun at Neil and Abby's house -- Kurt, Erica, Pam, Jim, and Wes. Backyard fun at a summer cookout with softball friends -- Neil, Abby and Lori.

We got there late, so most folks had already come and gone. But it's never too late to get your Cornhole on!

...Think of it as a "bean bag toss for adults".

Then, imagine that it's fun.
