My recent post about TV talk show hosts reminded me just how much I miss the fun folks who used to run a 24-hour cable channel called Tech TV. Yep, it was all computers all the time... for the geek in all of us.
The best part is they covered topics for beginners including new computer users altogether (think: senior citizens, moms, parents, and just plain 'ol late-bloomers into the computer world) as well as topics for more advanced users of computers (like webmasters and others just starting to dabble into the world of HTML).
They never went too far in either direction, which meant that each show could keep your attention -- no matter what your level of expertise with computers was. Plus, they made it FUN. Real-life computer and Internet how-to's and explanations that were actually fun to learn and try.
Anyway, it's been 3 years now and I'm (obviously) still having trouble getting past the fact that they changed the focus of the network from computers to gamers. TechTV became G4 on cable. Here's one of their last shows (Check it out, they talk about DVD vs Blu-Ray when it was introduced in 2004!):
I got to wondering what all of those fun people are up to these days...
Okay, so here it is, January 13th... and no, I'm not chastising homeowners who still have their Christmas decorations up (...and lit every night!).
This year I turn my attentions toward national advertisers...
I mean, the holidays are past, so why in the world are there still so many commercials on TV still discussing the holidays?
Case in point: Pepto-Pismol!
Attention getting... yes.
Will it work on TV?... I don't know.
Here's the inside scoop on "How To Look Good Naked" premiering on Lifetime television, Fridays at 8PM (central).
Why does Montel Williams wear non-matching earrings that are so big?
These days, the left one is hoop-type and the right one is a stud. Neither is simple and understated. Instead, they're very flashy and much larger than your basic earrings. They're so distracting on camera... the diamonds "glow" every time the camera angle changes on the set. It's just a little much, if you ask me.

Why does Kelly Ripa always dress as if it's summer during the winter months?
I'm guessing it's to show off her well-toned arms... and legs.

Why does Regis Philbin continue to "put down" things on his own show?
He's obviously becoming less and less happy with the show's format and content these days... and he's there less and less too. Must be a sign. Next year, he's taking off Fridays and Thursdays! (It's sounding more and more like the Kelly and Regis show instead of the Regis and Kelly show every day...)
We recently purchased a 42" widescreen, flat screen, HDTV set.
And now, it's hard to watch TV on anything smaller. (But we do... our other TV is an "old-fashioned" 20-inch television set.)
The point is... we're really happy with our 42" TV set. And depending on where you're going to put it, it seems like the perfect size that would fit in most places.
I've never seen (or heard) Eric O'Shea perform before.
Turns out, he's a really funny comedian.
Check out this video, for example...
This will be the third year now that I've had my eye on Black Friday sales. Last year, we snatched a few good deals... but nothing big.
While Black Friday events in general guarantee that you'll hear things like "Prices slashed!"... "Rock-bottom prices!"... "Lowest prices of the season!"... and "Best sale ever!"
Each year, a handful of really "hot" items seem to make their way to the top and attract all of the media's attention... and the consumers'.
For example, last year it was the 42" Plasma HD TV. And the year before that it was the laptop for under $400! (We have friends that tried for both, and failed.)
Wondering what the hottest items are this year???
We went to the Wildhorse Saloon last night for the taping of a reality TV series called Gone Country. The show will premiere on CMT on January 25, 2008.
These are the celebrities who are taking part in the show and the ones who performed the songs they co-wrote last night at the Wildhorse Saloon:
- Bobby Brown (New Edition)
- Carnie Wilson (Wilson Phillips)
- Dee Snider (Twisted Sister)
- Diana DeGarmo (American Idol)
- Julio Iglesias Jr. (son of Julio Iglesias)
- Maureen McCormick (The Brady Bunch)
- Sisqo ("The Thong Song")
Maybe I'm not so crazy after all for thinking dancers like the ones in the Jello commercials are cool... and talented!
Truth is, I was almost positive that the Jello dancers had moved on over to a new ad campaign by Hanes. Because I keep catching bits & pieces of this commercial (click "Womens ComfortSoft"). And I see some very similar movements in there.
You agree, right?
Last year, nearly 800,000 people signed up to participate in HGTV's annual "Get Organized" challenge.
Today (April 2, 2007) kicks off a whole new year of tips & tricks to get organized once and for all!
