We know who the celebrities are -- the ones who are actually singing the songs for this Country Music competition hosted by John Rich.
But because I'm such a geek for songwriters and I have my "favorites" in the Country Music end of this industry, I'm more interested in the Nashville songwriters who are helping these celebs pen their songs than I am in the show itself.
For the record, the final episode of Gone Country airs this coming Friday on CMT. (Of course, then it will re-air about a million times after that -- because all of the other 5 episodes have already re-aired time and time again!)
Below I've listed the songwriters, who they are paired with on the show, and the name of the song they wrote for the Gone Country competition.
And I just have to say right now, I should've KNOWN that Jeffrey Steele was behind Bobby Brown's song. It's got J.S. written all over it! Yes, I realize they mentioned it at the season finale that was taped months ago, but I was too busy paying attention to everything else going on that night.
Like I said before (here and here), the song that Bobby Brown chose to perform for this competition ROCKS. And it's perfectly written for him. Not to mention the fact that Bobby Brown did a remarkable job of singing it!
Okay, onto the songwriting duos, the celebrity they're paired with, and the title of the song they wrote together...
I guess you could say, 'We knew them when.'
Well, not really... These guys (Jeffrey Steele, Bob DiPiero, Tony Mullins and Craig Wisemen) wouldn't be able to pick Jim & I out in a crowd or anything. I guess we just feel like we knew them way back when... before they were 'famous'.
Which really isn't fair to say either, because these guys were Rockin' & Rollin' and singin' the Blues looonnng before our first time seeing them perform together as a group at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
We've actually seen each of them performing individually (or sometimes, or with one or another of The Hitmen) several times at various places in and around Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee.
And thanks to GAC, you probably have a better appreciation for these guys and their music, too. (Not to mention their amazing -- and offbeat -- sense of humor!)
I was just searching around the Net for their schedule. I was hoping we might be able to catch them performing as The Hitmen of Music Row somewhere soon.
Then I figured that I may as well share all of the cool sites and information I found with everyone here...
I am reminded of the new VanZant song...
"Help Somebody If You Can" (written by none other than Jeffrey Steele).
It's a song about taking the time to consider what's important in life, and to help someone in need -- if you're in a position to do so.
Awhile ago, our friend David contacted the church (BCC) with an idea to help "neighbors in need" in the Nashville area.
Months later, the church contacted David asking if he'd like to coordinate a work project to help a family whose house caught on fire, causing significant damage to their kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom.
Following is a collection of Jeffrey Steele photographs taken at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.
First, some Jeffrey Steele facts:
- Jeffrey Steele is an amazing songwriter who, in the last 3 years alone, has had over 200 of his songs recorded by some of Country Music's biggest stars: Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Collin Raye, Diamond Rio, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, Randy Travis, Lonestar, Jamie O'Neal, and many, many more.
- More than a dozen of his songs have hit the Top 10 on the music charts, with half of those making it into the No. 1 position.
- Just about every major act in Country Music today has a Jeffrey Steele song on one of their albums! Here's a complete rundown of Jeffrey Steele songs & the artists who cut them.

After a 5-month hiatus from songwriter nights (for no reason), we went to the Bluebird Cafe for an "in the round" line-up of songwriters that we could not pass up:

I long for the day that it becomes commonplace to see and hear the name of the songwriter, in addition to the singer on all music radio and video channels!
Country Music video channels -- like CMT and GAC -- currently include the name of the songwriter next to the singer for every video played. But other video channels -- like MTV and VH1 -- have yet to follow suit. And there isn't ONE radio station around that gives props to the songwriter when their song is played.
Maybe it's because I'm from Nashville and I "know" a lot of the songwriters who pen many of today's hits (mostly Country; some Pop)... but I find myself getting more and more frustrated with "the system" each time I hear a new tune on the radio, and I'm left wondering who might have written that particular song. Much to my dismay, the DJ usually zips right into another song -- OFTEN times mentioning the singer, but NEVER mentioning the writer!
When it comes to music, we're all across the board. But one thing's for sure: We're always looking for new singers and songwriters to become acquainted with!
Here's an eclectic listing of the concerts we've been to, our favorite singers and songwriters, and the reasons we're glad to live in Nashville - Music City USA.
