During grad school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Lynnette worked part-time for the University (advising undergraduates on their classes & ultimate career choices), and also part-time at this convenience store that was located directly across the street from campus.

Classes had just let out for Christmas break, and campus was completely empty on the only day that she was ever asked to run the shop alone. It happened to be the same day a middle-aged Mexican man decided to rob the place!

He brought a magazine up to the counter & asked its price - including tax. When she started to ring it into the register, he swung around behind her & placed a knife to her back, instructing her to open the cash register immediatley.

Everything went haywire... he was as confused as she was, and a customer soon came up to the window & scared him away. Police & ambulance came, but the cut actually did more damage to her favorite IU sweatshirt than to her back. Not having any health insurance, she refused treatment.
