I went to the emissions place recently (a requirement before we renew our license plates each year here in Tennessee), and as I was leaving they handed me a small vinyl bag.
I asked what that was for, and they said it's an easy way to recycle your cell phone.
Which reminded me of two other sites I had previously bookmarked as being "reputable" sites for recycling cellphones.
Cell Phone Recycling Centers
The first one came from Kim Komando.
She's an online and radio host who talks about all things electronic
...including computers and cell phones.
She recommends WirelessRecycling.com
I like the little program they also recommend on the Wireless Recycling website. It's called the Cell Phone Data Eraser:

...Everyone should delete all personal data before recycling a cell phone, even if you're passing it onto someone you know.
The second cell phone recycling program is called Call 2 Recycle. I think it was Steve Bass who recommended this one. He's the computer gadget guru at PC World.
Here's how to find a drop off site in your area.
...There were 10 different locations listed in my area.
And finally, check out this FAQ About Cell Phone Donation Programs.
UPDATE: I just found another great site that comes recommended by Martha Stewart. It's called Collective Good and it's a mobile phone recycling center.
