Reasons To Switch From The Internet Explorer Browser To Firefox

| Comments (4)

I made the switch from Internet Explorer (IE) to Firefox in April 2005, and I've never looked back!

What follows is a growing list of all the reasons that I personally love Firefox.

That's right, after more than 20 years of being loyal to IE, I officially gave it up about 2 years ago.

Why?

Mostly because everyone who was worth their weight in gold in the Internet world was using Firefox. So, yeah, peer pressure kind of got the best of me.

But also because... as web site designers, Jim and I began to notice that there were huge differences in what people saw whenever they viewed our sites in IE vs Firefox. For that reason, we had to stay on top of things and make sure that our websites looked good in IE and Firefox, since they are the two most popular Internet browsers these days.

Why I'm Glad I Switched

Turns out, Firefox is much more respected as a browser. Firefox is safer than IE, too.

For the end user, Firefox has much greater flexibility than IE, and offers so many unique capabilities which enable you to personalize your web browsing experiences to the hilt!

Firefox truly makes Internet surfing a lot more FUN and your time spent surfing much more efficient.

Why I Was Hesitant To Switch

If you're anything like me, then you've probably been using Internet Explorer (maybe without even realizing it) simply because it's the browser that came pre-loaded on your PC.

I was comfortable using IE. It made sense to me. There wasn't anything I couldn't do in Internet Explorer (that I knew of). And "everyone else was using it".

It's hard to change something that you're comfortable with. But trust me, if you switch to Firefox, you'll be comfortable with it in no time!

Reasons To Switch To Firefox

Following are some of the reasons I am glad that I made the switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox:

Firefox Comes With A Built-In Spell-Checker (...which means typos appear as you type them!)

coComments Enables You To Track Your Comments & Conversations In The Blogosphere (...you no longer have to remember to go back to those pages where you've left comments!)

Tab Mix Plus Lets You Control How Tabs Behave In Your Browser (...you dictate how pages open & close)

Diigo Toolbar Lets You Save Virtual Bookmarks With Highlights, Notes & Tags (...view your bookmarks from any computer!)

Measure It Shows You The Height & Width Of Any Web Object (...great for web designers)

Link Checker Finds Dead Links On Your Pages (...great for bloggers)

IE Tab Shows You What Your Web Pages Look Like In IE

Session Restore Automatically Takes You Right Back Where You Were Before Your Computer Crashed (...computers "freeze up" or crash for lots of reasons, but you'll never lose your data again!)

You Can Remove Typos & Other Text From "Saved Forms" & Boxes In Your Browser Window

There's so much more... but those are the main reasons that I like Firefox and use it daily.

Hi meredith -
I would strongly recommend that you try the IE Tab add-on for Firefox.

It lets you flip back & forth between browser views -- while remaining in Firefox.

I use it to see what a certain page or an entire website looks like in IE sometimes.

Maybe IE Tab would work for you...

My work computer was not uploading pages with IE so I switched to Firefox, which is much better. Unfortunately, many of my work-related interactive web pages don't work with Firefox!!! So I have to switch back to use certain sites.

I switched to Foxfire because I was tired of the constant (and I mean 2 to 3 times per computer sesion)"crashes" I was experiencing with Explorer...and the insult of them asking me if I wanted to send them a report so they could fix their own product!!!???? I still occasionally use Explorer..but only if I'm not doing anything important or playing a game. Foxfire is by far a much better browser..for all the reasons you have mentioned plus it has never once crashed on me in the middle of a project!
