The seven wonders of the world may never be the same again...

That's because they're reevaluating the current list of top 7 wonders of the world, and they're inviting you to have a say in the final list of the world's wonders.

"Maybe it simply feeds modern society's obsession with lists and rankings, but more than 2,000 years after ancient Greeks identified the Seven Wonders of the World, millions of people around the globe are casting Internet ballots to update the list." Source

The fact of the matter is, in addition to verbal disputes and hard feelings as a result of other "worthy" places not being included on the list, the Seven Wonders of the World list has even been considered flawed by some, and endangered by others.


Did You Know?

There are several different lists floating around with "wonders of the world" in the title.

The 7 Ancient Wonders of the World:

  • Pyramids at Giza

  • Colossus of Rhodes

  • Hanging Gardens of Babylon

  • Pharos (Lighthouse) of Alexandria

  • Statue of Zeus at Olympia

  • Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

  • Temple of Artemis at Ephesus


The 7 Natural Wonders of the World:

  • Mount Everest in Nepal

  • Victoria Falls in Zambia/Zimbabwe

  • Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA

  • Great Barrier Reef in Australia

  • Northern Lights

  • Paricutin volcano in Mexico

  • Harbor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil


The 7 Wonders of the Modern World:

  • The Empire State Building

  • Netherlands North Sea Protection Works

  • Golden Gate Bridge

There's even a list of the Top 100 Wonders of the World, as well as a list of the Top 1000 Wonders of the World!


Vote On The Final List Of Wonders

Over 28 million votes were cast to generate the 21 wonder finalists. The process went something like this:

Voting began in 2001.

The list of nominated monuments swelled to 177.

Those were narrowed down to 77.

In late 2005 a group of experts (each from a different country) picked the current 21 finalists.

The final 7 wonders of the world will be determined by online voters and announced on July 7, 2007.

The final tally produced this list of the world's top human-built wonders:
• The Great Wall of China
• Petra in Jordan
• Brazil's statue of Christ the Redeemer
• Peru's Machu Picchu
• Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid

• India's Taj Mahal

Organizers said more than 90 million votes had been cast for 21 sites.
