Looks Like Help Is Just Around The Corner... Ambulances Everywhere!

I saw so many ambulances passing in the course of 30 minutes on this one day that I couldn't always get my camera out in time to capture it. Okay, so what was with all the ambulances buzzing around town on Friday??? During my drive between Davidson and Williamson counties, I must've spotted a dozen or more ambulances!

Another ambulance during lunchtime in Nashville.

None of them actually had the siren on, but it seemed everywhere I looked during my lunch hour drive I saw an ambulance motoring about.

Passing another ambulance in Nashville.

So much so, that I felt compelled photograph those I saw on my way back to work. I wondered if I would see HALF as many as I saw on my way to lunch... I did!

Listen to a Bud Light Real Men of Genius commercial which aired on "The Bert Show" (Q100.5 in Atlanta) called "Mr. Radio Traffic Announcer Guy": [Thanks, Don B.!]

My best guesses...
...Yet ANOTHER ambulance motoring about in Nashville. There was an ambulance convention in town -- though I couldn't find information about it anywhere.

...Ambulance drivers all tend to go to lunch at the same time every day.

...They were anticipating a lot of emergencies, and everyone who was anyone was on call today.

...They were on a mission to subliminally give everyone the illusion that Nashville is in good hands.

Did You Know?
The 911 emergency phone system was invented in Nebraska though it was first rolled out in Alabama.

Here's what constitutes an "emergency" vs "non-emergency" situation.

Check out pictures of ambulances showing how they have changed through the years (pre-1900 to the present).

Here's a kids' rap song to familiarize children with the 911 emergency phone number.

Two ambulances on the same stretch of road at the same time on a Friday afternoon in Nashville.

Paramedic Bloggers
Following are a handful of people who work as ambulance drivers (or EMTs) and who blog about their experiences:

  • Random Acts Of Reality -- a Blog based in London, England, written by an EMT working for the London Ambulance Service.
  • Paramedic Blog -- a Paramedic since 1977, and a longtime EMS Instructor.
  • EmergiBlogs -- a directory of blogs from emergency medical professionals including paramedics, EMTs, ER doctors & nurses, military medical personnel, and others who work in the field of emergency medicine.

On a different day, I captured this ambulance riding through the neighborhood with its siren on.

Funny 911 Recordings
NOTE: We're living in a day & age where pranksters can create audio and video which looks very real. Which of the following are "pranks" and which are actually "real" is hard to know. Nevertheless, the following audio clips are mildly entertaining to listen to.

"Actual" Calls Made To 911 Operators:

Burger King 911 Tape ...a lady calls 911 from the drive-thru for help getting a cheeseburger made to order. (From this forum where a 911 Dispatcher writes: "We had this call on record at work. I personally think it's the funniest call I have ever heard, but of course, others may not understand the humuor unless they work in the industry.")

Actual 911 Calls ...from the LAPD.
Taco 911 Tape ...a woman calls 9-1-1- over a taco.
Funny 911 Calls ...transcripts from a handful of 911 calls.
Heard By 911 Operators ...people aren't always thinking clearly at the time of an emergency.
Newspaper Article ...about a guy who drove an unconscious man to the hospital parking lot, but was told to call 911 for an ambulance to get him inside.
Burglar Calls 911 ...when he needed rescued after breaking into an art gallery.

one pist off medic

it`s not cool to call EMT`s and PARAMEDICS ambulance drivers!, we go thru years of training and hard work and hours of classes and certs to save your a$$ and your families, so when you are bleeding to death because a drunk driver hit you, and your child is hanging from the window, or your mom or dad is having a AMI ( for the ignorants) that`s a heart attack!, i bet you don`t scream " call the ambulance driver!!"", no!... you say call the Paramedics!, so next time your life is in danger, think who is the one saving your life, oh yeah the taxi driver right? get educated in what we do in the back of a ambulance, is nothing short of a ER on wheels! bet you don`t call a nurse a "a$$ wiper"!.
