Free Headsets... No Catch!

Free headset for hands-free cell phone use. "Free headsets"... Sound too good to be true?
...It's NOT!

Trust me, this one's for real. It's legit. It's valid. And it's been given props by The New York Times and the Editors at PCWorld magazine (and many others).

This "free headset" promotion (just $3.94 for the S&H) is being provided in hopes that more people will use headsets when talking on their cell phone in the car -- thus promoting safer driving and fewer accidents.

As more and more states are passing laws which mandate the use of headsets when talking on a cell phone in your car, FreeHeadset.org claims to be sending out more and more of their "free headsets".

Their motto: "Promoting wireless phone safety"

From their website:
Q: Are these good quality headsets?
A: Yes, all headsets we distribute are brand new and fully functional. They are the same headsets you see on the shelf at your local cell phone dealer or major retail store.

WE got our free headset from FreeHeadset.org... You can too!

I place an order on Sept 28, 2007. It's Nov. 1 and no headset has arrived yet. I have had no response to two email inquiries. Asked for refund through Google Checkout. Google contacted them via email, and I had a response within minutes. The tracking number they offered states that the package was never shipped, but the response from "freeheadsets.org" is that is was. I just want a refund now.

Part of Google Checkout's message to them:
"Please examine this situation and contact the buyer to find an acceptable solution. To contact the buyer, click the buyer's email address found in
the order details. Additionally, please respond to this email immediately with the status of this order. If you do not reply to this email within three business days, your account may be limited and become ineligible to receive payouts. In addition, this order may be subject to refunds for which you would be financially liable."

Freeheadset.org's response:

"This order has already been shipped and is currently in transit to the customer's address.
USPS Tracking Number: 9101805213907943842930"

Go to www.usps.gov and paste in the tracking number for yourselft, you will see they never shipped it.

I just want my money back now.

Karen -
Thanks for the update. That's good to know that they haven't responded to you.

I, too, tried to call to get verification and see if they're still offering the free headsets. Pressing #1 for Customer Service gets a "this mailbox is full" recording. As does pressing #2 for Public Relations.

Since this article was written over 2 years ago, I'm thinking they've probably had some changes in staffing and/or stopped sending out the free headsets altogether at this point. Just a guess... (Though you'd think they would take down their website & changed their phone number if that was the case.)

Like I said, I got my free headsets from them in a very timely manner -- 2 years ago. I'm not sure I can recommend them anymore.

If anyone else has experience with this company, please do share...

Since my phone isn't listed, I emailed them....3 times to be exact and not answer yet. I even tried to call. There phone box is full and can't accept messages. Not a very trustworthy organization as far as I can see

For the record, it took exactly one month for my free headset to arrive.
