Few things depreciate faster than computers. Did you know that computers double in speed and halve in price every 18 months?
Jim's 4-year-old HP computer has been operating on its last legs (and quickly declining on a daily basis) for months now.
Finally, we realized that his trusty old HP could no longer handle all of the memory-intensive programs that he uses on a daily basis. It wasn't operating up to par in terms of speed anymore either, taking way too long to: a) load certain programs and b) process certain tasks.
After much research (and 2nd and 3rd opinions from experts in the field), we found that we could score a deal on a brand new high-tech Dell Dimension 8400 computer, we quickly snatched it up. Plus, they were running all sorts of specials including free upgrades, doubled-capacity hard drive & RAM, and free shipping!
The documentation says that this computer is so far ahead of its time... it was built in such a way to be among the top-of-the-line ADVANCED level computers today, and to remain among the top-of-the-line ENTRY level computers for 5 years from now. (In other words, what is considered high-tech and "advanced" these days, will be considered mainstream and entry level computers 5 years from now.)
So now Jim's on a Dell computer with XP at home, I'm on a Dell computer with XP at work, and I've got a 3-year-old Pionex with Windows 2000 that's still serving me quite well at home.
