Last night we went to the the Christian Country Music Awards show at the Ryman in Nashville. It was being seen "live" on GAC, with an encore presentation on Sunday, Nov. 7th at 9 a.m. (ET).
If you happen to watch on Sunday, look for us! I was fairly noticeable in one of the few bright red (non-glittery) sweaters that evening, and Jim was wearing... well a bald head should be pretty noticeable -- seein' as most everyone else was wearing cowboy hats! We were 4th row from the front -- in the balcony.
The Highlights...
We were probably the only "non-family members" in attendance! Everyone but us seemed to be reliving their youth getting all dressed up in sparkly, glittery, prom-dressy attire and poofing up their hair ceiling-high with hordes of hair spray and other gel-like substances. For a minute there, we thought we'd time traveled back to the 80's. This was all done in hopes of seeing their son/daughter, brother/sister, or husband/wife take home the award for "Best Christian Country something".
No photos. Since it was "live" for TV (it aired on GAC), cameras weren't allowed. Neither were food or drink in the auditorium. (Guess they didn't want all of us feeding our faces while the camera panned across the audience all night!)
We should've circled the winners in our program for future reference, cuz we didn't know ANY of the singers or musical groups that were up for any of the awards! (Kinda felt like our level of "Christianity" wasn't quite up to par or something for us to be so out of touch with these Christian artists.)
Some of the performers were good. We enjoyed seeing Josh Turner ("Long Black Train"), both sing live and co-host the show all night. Plus, it was a joy to see the Oak Ridge Boys ("Elvira"), as well as Ricochet, ("Daddy's Money") and new Country star Jimmy Wayne ("Paper Angels") all perform separately. Other than that, we didn't know a soul...
We were introduced to a new group that we'll probably be checking out further. We went to this show for the primary purpose of finding some new artists to check out. The only one we were even remotely intrigued with was a group called the The Crabb Family. They rocked! Here's a sampling. (...but what really made them enjoyable was their stage presence!)
If you're interested, here's a list of all who were up for awards at the 2004 Christian Country Music Awards show.
