Before You Try A Low-Carb Smoothie King...

Low-Carb Smoothie King. Sticking to the Atkins weight loss plan has been a breeze for both Jim and I, but we still have a need for something sweet on occasion.

We recently tried a Low-Carb Smoothie from our all-time favorite: Smoothie King.

In fact, it was part of the motivation for going on Atkins in the first place... that we would still be able to satisfy our craving for a Smoothie by ordering their "low carb" version, instead of the megga-carbed and megga-tasty "regular" Angel Food smoothie.

Smoothie King health fruit smoothies.

One word...

Blech!

Don't do it.
Even the server behind the counter tried to talk us out of it!

For a mere 6 carbs (in your daily allotment of 20 on the Atkins plan), you get to choose from a lusciously light Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla, or Banana Smoothie. What you get is something more like a lumpy ice-filled cup with a squirt of some artificially flavored concoction inside.

...not a pleasant experience!

Jim managed to crunch away 32 ounces of the Banana-flavored ice product (for 9 carbs instead of 6). But Lynnette didn't even get through 3 tastes of her 20 ounce Strawberry low-carb Smoothie (...reserving her 6 carbs of dessert for a Hershey's miniature instead!)

Guess we'll have to find our sweet treats elsewhere for awhile. You can bet we'll be back to Smoothie King for the full-carbed versions on our next "cheat day" though!

smoothie king is good, they use real fruit, they don't use artificial concoctions like you said

Actually, it only has 4 net carbs if you subtract the 2 grams of fiber present in the smoothie. Also, it's presented as a "meal-alternative". Because of the high protien content, you will tend to stay very full-feeling until your next meal. Sounds like you just chose a bad Smoothie King location. I regularly have the low carb strawberry and it's blended perfectly.

Come on guys, some reasonable expectations are required here. First, the strawberry lo-carb does not have any real strawberries - impossible at 6 total carbs!! This is a strawberry protein drink - no "squirts of artificial flavor." The vanilla and chocolate versions are very good, but for 6 total carbs, you can't expect something that feels and tastes like a fruit filled smoothie.

I too am on atkins, and I went to my local smoothie king and asked for the chocolate low carb smoothie, and then asked the guys behind the counter if he could put some coffee and a couple almonds in there, it was heavenly! It sure did do the job of replacing my normal carb filled almond mocha protein smoothie from them! Two thumbs way up!

I love the recipes here but the atkins diet is very un-healthy for you.

Try another Smoothie King. I have been havibg a vanilla low carb smoothie every morning for a couple of months and I love it. It has to be blended well.but mine usually are.
